Dubai is a city that is committed to achieving environmental sustainability and reducing its ecological footprint. The city has implemented various initiatives and regulations to promote green building practices and standards, as well as to provide environmental services and solutions for its residents and visitors.

One of the main initiatives that Dubai has launched is the Dubai Building Code1 which is a set of requirements and guidelines that aim to ensure the health, safety, welfare and convenience of people in and around buildings, as well as to reduce the impact of buildings on the surrounding environment. The Dubai Building Code covers various aspects of building design, construction and operation, such as energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, indoor environmental quality, fire safety and accessibility.

Initiatives & Regulations

In addition to the local initiatives and regulations, Dubai also follows the federal environmental regulations and policies that are set by the UAE government3. The UAE government has established a body of legislations to ensure sustainable environment for life. It has introduced many legislations to preserve the environment, such as the Federal Law No. 24 of 1999 for the Protection and Development of the Environment, the Federal Law No. 11 of 2006 Regulating Human Organ Transplants and Transplantation of Human Tissues and Cells, and the Federal Law No. 23 of 2009 on Exploitation, Protection and Development of Living Aquatic Resources in the UAE.
